Start Your JourneyThe Holy Quran is the miraculous word of Allah, revealed to His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, transmitted to us through continuous chains of narration, its recitation is an act of worship, beginning with Surah Al-Fatihah and ending with Surah An-Nas.
The Quran has many names, each reflecting its greatness: Al-Quran (The Recitation), Al-Kitab (The Book), Al-Furqan (The Criterion), Adh-Dhikr (The Reminder), An-Nur (The Light), Al-Huda (The Guidance), Ar-Rahmah (The Mercy), Ash-Shifa (The Cure).
The Quran is an eternal miracle, divinely preserved from any distortion, comprehensive to all aspects of life, suitable for every time and place, miraculous in its eloquence, healing for hearts, and guidance for all people.
Surah Al-Isra - Verse 9
The revelation began to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the Cave of Hira during Ramadan in 610 CE. The first verses revealed were: "Read in the name of your Lord who created." Revelation continued over 23 years.
Lasted 13 years, about two-thirds of the Quran was revealed. Makkan verses are short, focusing on creed, monotheism, resurrection, and addressing the intellect and emotions.
Lasted 10 years after the Hijrah. Madinan verses are longer, focusing on legislation, jihad, personal status, financial transactions, and detailed rulings.
The last verses revealed were: "Today I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion" (Al-Maidah: 3).
The Quran was first compiled into a single book during the caliphate of Abu Bakr As-Siddiq after the Battle of Yamamah. The Uthmanic script was standardized during Uthman ibn Affan's caliphate.

The Quran is divided into 30 equal parts (Juz) to facilitate recitation, especially during Ramadan. Each Juz is divided into two Hizb, totaling 60 Hizb. Subdivisions into quarters (Rub' al-Hizb) help in memorization and review.
Tajweed is the science that teaches the correct pronunciation of Quranic letters with all their inherent and conditional characteristics. It protects the tongue from errors in recitation.
Qira'at are the different methods of reciting the Quranic words, transmitted through continuous chains of narration. The seven famous Qira'at are transmitted by: Nafi', Ibn Kathir, Abu Amr, Ibn Amir, Asim, Hamzah, and Al-Kisa'i.
Asbab al-Nuzul studies the specific events, circumstances, and questions that caused particular Quranic verses to be revealed. Understanding these contexts is essential for correct interpretation.
Throughout history, many renowned reciters have excelled in Quranic recitation, including: Abdul Basit, Muhammad Siddiq Al-Minshawi, Mahmoud Khalil Al-Husary, Mishary Alafasy, Saud Al-Shuraim, and others.
Many local and international competitions encourage Quran memorization and recitation, including: Dubai International Holy Quran Award, King Abdulaziz International Competition in Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia's International Quran Competition.
Tajweed institutes are found throughout the Islamic world, including: The Institute of Qira'at at Al-Azhar, Quranic colleges in Islamic universities, and specialized centers like Imam Al-Shatibi Institute in Medina.
